Created by Go Jauntly and Bristol City Council, the Bristol Ring showcases the city’s breadth of green and blue spaces and every section is accessible via public transport.

Bristol Ring Walks

The 33 mile route is divided into 6 beautifully green sections and you can follow the whole route here. Where will you start?

Distance: 12.1 km
Duration: 4 hours 30 minutes

Starting from Bristol Temple Meads Station, Section 1 takes you along the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, this section loops through local nature reserves including Magpie Bottom.

Stroll along a tranquil section of the River Avon, finishing with great views and history on Troopers Hill.

Distance: 8.6 km
Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes

Explore a plethora of hidden nature gems from under the tree canopy in Crews Hole Woodland where this section starts.

Walk along the River Avon before crossing over Bristol’s main waterway to visit the nature havens of St Anne’s Wood, Nightingale Valley and the Whitchurch Railway Path.

Distance: 7.7 km
Duration: 3 hours

From Briery Leaze and the community orchard head through the site of the old Whitchurch Airport in Hengrove Park before climbing up to the nature haven of Hengrove Mounds.

Explore the nature-filled corridors Crox Bottom and Manor Valley Woods to top off this southern stretch of the ring.

Distance: 7.6 km
Duration: 3 hours 15 minutes

The hilliest, most rural and view-filled section starts across fields with views to Bristol’s skyline. After heading through farmland section 4 meets the manicured gardens and woods of the Ashton Court Estate.

Your final steps will take you over the Clifton Suspension Bridge and onto Clifton Down with amazing views down to Avon Gorge.

Duration: 2 hours

The shortest section starts with spectacular views across the Avon Gorge where you could spot rock climbers, peregrine falcons and views to the Bristol Channel.

Stroll across Clifton and Durdham Downs to enjoy the expanse of sky and the trees that line the paths of the green space. Continue through quiet streets to the fragmented parts of Horfield Common and the lovely community cafe. There’s even an option for the sauna here if you fancy!

Distance: 11.1 km
Duration: 4 hours 20 minutes

The final section is packed with views as you travel across Purdown with views of to the city skyline before winding through the Stoke Park Estate.

It follows a tranquil section of the River Frome at Snuff Mills and through Eastville Park before heading back to the centre along the Bristol and Bath Railway Path.
