The Royal Parks Collection

Some projects are extra special. Like working with The Royal Parks charity on conservation walks in the largest and busiest green spaces in London! Mission: Invertebrate is a Royal Parks project dedicated to preserving and enhancing biodiversity across the parks.

This Easter we're launching the More Than Bugs Trails. These self-led walks in the central Royal Parks are available for free on the Go Jauntly app and will help you discover more about their conservation initiatives and introduce you to some of the parks smallest inhabitants - the invertebrates.

If you’re on the hunt for a family-friendly activity in London, we reckon these six step-free #MoreThanBugs walks are a cracking option. There are six to choose from. Why not walk them all?

1. The Bee Walk 🐝

Bee still our bee-ting heart. Buzz through The Regent's Park and immerse yourself in the wide range of wildlife habitats, from reedbeds to bee banks. Walk it!

2. The Caterpillar Crawl 🐛

A leisurely 40-minute stroll around The Green Park. Discover the meadow, scrub and tree habitats, and meet some of the invertebrates who live there. See the walk!

3. The Dragonfly Trail

Stroll through Hyde Park, taking around 1hr 10 minutes.Visit grassland, woodland, freshwater habitats and invertebrate sculptures, that have been carved from fallen trees. View the walk.

4. The Water Beetle Walk

A beautiful loop around Kensington Gardens. Who knew the park is home to one of the UK's rarest invertebrates, the spangled water beetle? Found in only two locations in the UK! View walk!

5. The Ladybird Trail 🐞

Over in Kensington Gardens, enjoy this short trail for little legs, discover its marvellous mini-beasts and their habitats along the way.  See the trail! See the trail!

6. The Hoverfly Hop

Hop through the Royal Parks pollinator and lakeside habitats in one of London's best-loved parks, St James’s Park. Walk the walk!

You can join in any time of day or day of the week via the app. The Royal Parks are great places to connect with nature.

If you’re not in London, don’t worry, you can still get involved via the Royal Parks Easter Virtual Discovery Weeks, beginning Tuesday 6th of April. Find out about the festival here.

What are Invertebrates? 🐜🕷

Invertebrates are creatures without a backbone, like insects, spiders and snails – they account for over 95% of all animals. Invertebrates underpin our populations of birds, small mammals and their predators, the quality of our soils and water bodies, the abundance and variety of plant species and the health of our trees. They are recyclers, pollinators, pest-controllers, sources of food and the cornerstone of biodiversity. Get involved with Mission:Invertebrate

About Mission: Invertebrate

Mission:Invertebrate was launched in 2017 to help discover, celebrate and protect nature’s unsung workforce living in the 5,000 acres of London’s Royal Parks.  The project is made possible through the support of Players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

About The Royal Parks

The Royal Parks is the charity that exists to make sure London’s eight historic Royal Parks will always be there to enrich the lives of local residents and visitors to London.

It costs £40m a year to manage the parks. The charity raises around 75% of this money itself, with the remaining 25% coming from the Government. For further information please visit: www.royalparks.org.uk
