A walking world in Fitzrovia

We are very proud to be teaming up with Arup to bring some brand new Fitzrovia-based walking trails to the app. Here’s what they had to say about our partnership…

Our aim at Arup is to shape a better world. By focusing on planning, designing and delivering sustainable cities and their component parts and systems, we know that a walkable city is  better for the built environment in every respect.

We also know that encouraging walking, both within the workplace, as well as for travelling to and from work and for other business travel, brings significant benefits for staff and for employers. These range from creativity to physical and mental health to economic vibrancy.

We are therefore delighted to have these routes which allow staff and visitors to walk between a number of London’s key rail stations and the Arup office buildings in Fitzrovia, London. Station walks include Charing Cross, Euston, Kings Cross, Leicester Square, Paddington and Waterloo station.

In addition, three walk ‘n talk routes have been mapped out for staff and visitors to the office. These routes are perfect for a lunchtime stretch, exploring the Fitzrovia neighbourhood or even a walking meeting.

The built environment needs to encourage healthier choices and we need to design physical activity back into our everyday lives by incentivising and facilitating walking as daily mode of transport. In addition to the host of health benefits, there are many economic benefits for developers, employers and retailers when it comes to walking. It’s the lowest carbon, least polluting, cheapest and most reliable form of transport. It’s a great social leveller and having people walking through urban spaces makes them safer for others and, best of all, it makes people happy. No wonder we want our staff to walk more!
